Who are we?
ACE is a non-profit, voluntary organisation which
gained charitable status in 2002.
ACE was founded in 1990 to provide community
based education and training in the borough of
Wigan and Leigh for people with learning
disabilities. In 1991, ACE became a company limited
by guarantee. We are managed by a Voluntary
Management Group comprising of volunteers from a
wide range of professional backgrounds.
Alternative community based
education and training.
A comprehensive learner
centred service working to
enable learners to make
informed choices about their
lives, by encouraging them to
take an active part in their own
community for their own and
the community's benefit.
A service which works in
partnership with a variety of
community based agencies
and resources.
A service which reaches out to
adult learners who may have
been excluded from other
statutory provision.
We aim to provide:
A secure, well established
service for the future.
Continuous improvement in the
quality of service by regular
evaluation and investment in
the professional development
of staff and volunteers.

Both our Wigan and Leigh sites offer an extensive
menu of activities and provide a person centred
educational service for over 50 learners across the
borough. Learners work on their own projects, at
their own level and pace without the pressure of
meeting deadlines.
As an education provider ACE is committed to
delivering quality educational programmes and
managing the performance of its service and
employees. ACE continues to encourage staff and
volunteers in their personal development and we
are a supporter of the Greater Manchester Good
Employment Charter.
We also work in partnership with local employers,
schools, colleges, universities, charities, emergency
services and other providers within the voluntary
and community sector.
ACE continues to establish positive relationships
with organisations throughout the borough and
nationally, including the Boroughwide Community
Network, British Institute for Learning Disabilities
(BILD), National Institute for Adult Continuing
Education (NIACE), Skills for Care, ASDAN, ICO
Register of data controllers, training agencies, the
Wigan healthy living team, and Greater Manchester
Centre for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO).
This ensures that information is disseminated and
good working practices are shared.
ACE also works closely with family members and
support agencies to identify individual needs for
the benefit of the learner.
